July 14th: Bastille Day
July 14th is a special day for French people, it’s the French National Day (we call it Bastille Day in English-speaking countries) !
In France, it is formally called La fête nationale and commonly Le quatorze juillet.
The French National Day commemorates the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789, an important event in Paris in a violent revolution that had begun two days earlier, as well as the Fête de la Fédération which celebrated the unity of the French people on 14 July 1790.
It’s a public holiday! It’s a good opportunity to enjoy the fireworks under the Eiffel Tower.
