Sharing an experience of a student preparing for the exam DELF B2
Partage d’expériences d’un étudiant préparant l’examen DELF B2 (1)
After obtaining a mechanical engineering undergraduate degree, Dorian is preparing to enter the graphic design school this year. In a month or so, he will pass the DELF B2 exam on which he has depensed so much for more than three months. Now let’s follow his preparation course at A.A.A ..
AAA : What is your french level before taking our DELF/DALF preaparation course ?
Dorian : I took the DELA B le programme de Prépa au DELF B2 au mois de novembre 2018. When i took this cours, i was in level B1-3.
AAA : Why do you want to pass this exam ?
Dorian : I would like to apply to a school of graphic design for Sepetmber 2019. At a high school conference organized in May 2018 at the AAA language school, I was able to meet the staff pf the admission office of this school. On this occasion, i was able to present my application, the ansmer i had was that i need a DELF B2 certificate to prove the competence of my language skills.
AAA : How do you study at home ?
Dorian : I had searched for free exercises online, but these exercises were too old. After havig followed the DELF B2 Preparation, I did homework given by the teacher. Since listening was my weak point, i worked hard on this.
AAA : What do you think is the most difficult part when preparing the exam ?
Dorian : The oral comprehension. Because the audio document of this type of examination is very particular. The audio document looks like an actual recording from a radio or TV show, and then when I listen, I have to understand not only the situation at stake but also a lot of detail about a particular definition, the opinion of everyone or the cause of a phenomenon, etc. It’s a complex exercise.
AAA : How do you use the listening test exercise ?
Dorian : The professor gave us a very clear methodology for preparing this exercise. He taught us how to grasp the subject from a text, how to problematize a subject, how to develop a subject, how to prepare his plan of arguments, how to present these arguments, etc. I followed the teacher’s instructions and did some simulations with him in class. I think active participation in ongoing activities is very important for rapid progress.
AAA : How long have you spent for this exam ?
Dorian : If you have a high enough level, for example, B2-2 or higher, you can start the preparation at the latest two or three months before the exam date, otherwise it’s too late. The best is to have already passed at least one level DELF B1 before, it will help you a lot psychologically. Moreover, nothing guarantees us that we succeed on the first try. So, we should really take the time to prepare ourselves well.
AAA : When will you pass the DELF B2 ?
Dorian : I think I will spend it when I reach the B2-2 level in May. The fact of having followed the program DELF B2 November last taught me to revise more effectively. For example, in my general French course, I apply methods that I learned in the Prépa program, for each proposed exercise. It has become a habit for me over time.
AAA : What are your tips for people who plan to take the same exam ?
Dorian : I did not know at all what kind of exam it was before taking the DELF Prep program. So when I first saw long texts and long audio documents, I was very disturbed. For those who will be following the DELF Prep program at A.A.A., I advise you to at least take a look at a DELF prep manual. And that will be my last word: “Prepare in advance! “.
Wishing him a great success in his test, we look forward to hearing from him! !
