The Origin of Candlemas
Combining religious tradition, culture and a simple moment of conviviality, join us this month for Candlemas by participating in our contest!
Candlemas is a Christian holiday celebrated on February 2 of each year, or 40 days after the birth of Christ. That said, it corresponds to the presentation of the baby Jesus in the temple.
Indeed, it is about celebrating the fact that Jesus is a light for the nations as well as the purity of the virgin Mary, but also to ward off evil.
I imagine, like many of us, children and adults alike, we remember above all that it is a pancake day. Why are we eating pancakes on this day?
Today this festival is associated with a tradition: “eating pancakes”. This golden treat with its round shape, reminds of the sun. It alludes to light to remind us of the end of winter and the return of spring.
It is also a kind of lucky charm, the custom is to pop the first pancake with the right hand while holding a gold coin in the left hand in order to attract happiness and prosperity all year round.
Nowadays, this rite is being lost more and more, however, we have retained this desire to share good times around delicious pancakes, both in making them and in tasting them.
And on this occasion AAAParis invites you to participate in the competition:
